More Spaniards are travelling abroad for Christmas holidays
53% of Spaniards have booked their Christmas flights in November, according to data handled by the online travel agency, eDreams. 26% made their reservations in October and 12% in September.
The average expense was 120 euros for domestic travel, 170 for travel within Europe and 650 for international flights. 55% will enjoy more than three days of travel time, 20% will travel for three or four days, and 15% will spend 5 days travelling.
The overwhelming majority of tourists prefer to leave Spain to enjoy their Christmas holidays abroad, since 53% of the reservations made online are for European destinations, 36% for domestic destinations and 11% are international ones.
According to eDreams, the low-cost company Vueling ranks number one, followed by Iberia in third position.
Favorite destinations: Madrid, Paris and New York.
Paris, London and Rome are the first three places in the list of favorite destinations, followed by Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon, Munich, Frankfort, Vienna and Berlin.
Among international destinations, New York ranks first, followed by Istanbul and Marrakech. The ranking continues with Newark, New Jersey, Tangiers, Bangkok, Dubai, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Toronto.
The preferred destinations within Spain are Madrid, Barcelona and Tenerife, with the highest number of bookings, followed by Palma de Mallorca, Gran Canaria, Sevilla, Santiago de Compostela, Lanzarote, Málaga and Bilbao.
“These are very important days for the sector, due to increased demand, so planning and purchasing flights ahead of time is always the most advisable option, although Spaniards are usually last minute shoppers”, said María Sierra, head of communications and public relations for eDreams Spain and Portugal. She pointed out that Spaniards have been early purchasing flights this year.
